New rules for admission to Italian universities
New Exam
A new entrance exam called CenT has been introduced for admission to Italian higher education institutions.
All English-taught programs now require this exam. It has replaced the previous TOLC exam.
You cannot take the exam whenever you want
You can take it several times a year, but you are allowed to sit for it only once during each specific period. A single result can be used for applications to different universities. The exam can be taken online from home or at the university itself.
Exam Content
The exam consists of 55 questions and you are given 110 minutes to complete it. It covers mathematics, logic, physics, chemistry, and biology.
Depending on your chosen program, only some sections may be required. Before submitting your documents, be sure to check the exact requirements of your specific program.
When is the exam held?
- November – January: Results on 30 January
- February – March: Results on 31 March
- April – June: Results on 30 June
- September – October: Results on 31 October
Exam fee – approximately 55 euros
Important!
If the university’s final deadline for submitting documents is, for example, at the end of February, and you only start the application process in January, you may not have enough time to take the exam and send the results in time.
Therefore, if you plan to start studying in Italy in 2026, start preparing right now.
